Having a look around on YouTube, as you do, I found this fascinating video created in the 1960s, and documenting the creation of the New Town of Skelmersdale.

I love this - full of optimism, and whilst a lot of what they were planning didn't fully materialise, I don't necessarily think that's a bad thing; if it had, Skelmersdale would all look the same. As it is, Skelmersdale has been allowed to evolve, and encompass varying contemporary architectural styles, giving each district a distinct flavour.
